Space Food: What Do Astronauts Eat?

Would you like a snack on Saturn? Got the munchies on Mars? No one delivers pizza in space! Eating in space presents unique challenges for astronauts. Why? There is no gravity! The first space foods were soft, like baby food, and packaged in tubes like toothpaste! Later, the technique of freeze-drying was developed. Astronauts now use hot water to make meals that are delicious and nutritious. Using special straws, trays, and Velcro straps (so their food doesn't float away), astronauts enjoy tasty meals so they can perform their important work in space.
